The Owen-Spalding, Exum Ridge, and Petzoldt Ridge are extremely popular technical alpine rock routes. Groups larger than 2 can cause unnecessary and dangerous delays for all parties on these routes. Climbers should not attempt a one-day ascent of the Grand Teton without prior experience on this LARGE mountain and familiarity with technical ascents in the Teton Range.

Most pitches are best climbed as half-pitches (about 25 meters) due to rope drag. There is a cool feature on this route called "The Window". The top out on Petzoldt Ridge is very nice-its like getting a summit half way up the mountain. Petzoldt, who had a ridge of the peak he so loved to climb named after him, died Wednesday of prostate cancer at a nursing home in Topsham, Maine. He was 91.
